Obituary

Vernon C. Hughes was born on Nov. 6, 1920 in Jamestown, KS to Elijah L. & Pearl J. (Harris) Hughes. He passed from this life on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at Salina Regional Medical Center, Salina, KS at the age of 90. Vernon grew up in Cloud county. He served in the US Army during WWII. Vernon was a switchman for the telephone company for 30 years from 1946 to 1977. He then operated Hughes Enterprises in the Concordia area. He was a member of the American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588. He is survived by his sons: Loris Ray Hughes & wife Frances, Salina, KS, Robert Hughes & wife Lori, Osborne, KS & Howard Hughes & wife Jeannie, Lawrence, KS; brothers: David Hughes & wife Alice, Clyde, KS & Charles Hughes & wife Louise, Simpson, KS; 12 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters & a grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wed., Dec. 8, 2010 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Rev. Dean R. Frazier officiating. Visitation will be from 8 AM until the service time on Wed. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia with Military Honors by American Legion Post #76 & VFW Post #588. The family suggests memorials to the American Legion Post #76 in care of the funeral home.
