Obituary

Virginia Nida Roseberry Cormack was born on August 8, 1914 in Humansville , Missouri , to Junius Abraham and Nida Mae Minton Roseberry. As an infant, her family traveled across Kansas by covered wagon to Flagler , Colorado . She attended grade school in a one-room sod school in rural Flagler. Her parents then moved to Montrose , Colorado on the western slope. She graduated from Montrose High School .

Virginia felt God leading her to prepare for full-time Christian service. She graduated from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City , Kansas on the morning of May 6, 1937. That evening she was united in marriage to F. Lowell Cormack in Kansas City , Missouri .

She and her husband served three Baptist churches in Northwest Missouri; Colfax Baptist Church in rural Chanute , Kansas ; First Baptist Church in Chanute , Kansas ; Oakland Park Baptist church in Kansas City , Kansas ; Prairie Baptist Church in Prairie Village , Kansas ; First Baptist Church in Santa Barbara , California ; and several interim pastorates following retirement. She was a great support to her husband and to their churches. She especially loved working with children. She always had a positive word and a smile. She remained sweet even in the face of hardships. She had the gift of hospitality and gave her best at all times. She loved to work in her yard and garden. She was a loving wife, a caring mother, and a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.

Virginia is survived by a daughter Julia (Wayne) Paulsen of Franklin, Ohio; a son Roger of Concordia, Kansas; a son Richard (Fumi) of Juneau, Alaska; a granddaughter Lisa (Chuck) Knapp of Concordia, Kansas; a granddaughter Lori (Scott) Fast of Overland Park, Kansas; a grandson Bryan Cormack of Juneau, Alaska; and five great-grandchildren: Drew, Jared, and Lydia Knapp of Concordia, Kansas and Anthony and Madysen Fast of Overland Park, Kansas. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM, Mon., Sept. 26, 2011, in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Rev. Dr. Wayne Paulsen and Dr. Warren S. Freeborn, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at 3:30 PM, Mon. in the Abilene Cemetery , Abilene . Visitation will be held from 1-8 PM, Sun., Sept. 25, 2011 in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with the family greeting friends from 6-7 PM. The family suggests memorial gifts to the Lowell and Virginia Cormack Scholarship Fund at Central Baptist Theological Seminary, 6601 Monticello Road , Shawnee , KS 66226 -3513.
