Wayne E. Neel, 90, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026. He was born on February 13, 1936, to James and Mildred Neel. A lifelong farmer, Wayne proudly carried on his family's legacy by taking over his grandparents' farm, where he devoted his life to agriculture, faith, family, and service.
On August 6, 1960, he married the love of his life, Alberta Denio. Together they shared nearly 66 years of marriage and raised three daughters, who were the pride of his life.
Wayne's love of farming began early. In 1957, he won the Wichita Junior Livestock Show with three Southdown lambs. He remained a lifelong supporter of 4-H, serving as a member, community leader, council member, fair board member, and dedicated supporter of the livestock sale.
He proudly served in the Kansas National Guard during the late 1950s and early 1960s. He enjoyed township basketball, played and umpired softball, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsmen.
A faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, Wayne served in numerous leadership roles throughout the years. He also gave back to his community as a CCCC Booster, an ASCS and Rural Water District #1 board member.
Wayne was known for his strong work ethic, quiet generosity, quick wit, and just enough ornery spirit to keep family and friends smiling. He never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a story. A child at heart, Wayne enjoyed collecting trains and building dollhouses.
Above all, Wayne was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Alberta; daughters Linda Olson (Tom), Brenda Neel (Jonathan), and Debra Vickers (Jeff); grandchildren Amanda Pennell (Matthew), Brian Sixbury, Ryan Olson (Arianna), Jared Vickers, and Joshua Vickers.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Concordia, Kansas, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Tony Serbousek officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
