Wilfred "Tommy" Thoman, 85, of Jamestown, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. He was born on July 15, 1925 in Concordia to Ray and Jearl (Kennedy) Thoman. Tommy attended Concordia High School until joining the United States Navy in 1942. He was a motor mechanic and flagsman serving in the South Pacific for almost 3 years. Tommy married Margaret Jane Charbonneau on November 13, 1946 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia. He worked at the ASCS office in Concordia for 34 years. In 1990, Tommy and Jane flew to Washington D.C. to receive the Department of Agriculture Unsung Hero Award. He read meters for 10 years for REA in Belleville and water meters for 15 years for Rural Water District #1. Dad stayed active at home with his walnut cracking; which he shared with the kids for Christmas. He cut wood to burn for his wood stove and painted his 4020 John Deere. He took the boys fishing every Sunday and enjoyed celebrations with his family. He planted a garden; corn and potatoes every year and enjoyed swathing his alfalfa. He will be dearly missed by his family.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Jane; 7 children, Linda Revell of Jamestown, Ronda Thoman of Concordia, Gary Thoman and wife Vicky of Scandia, Gerald Thoman and wife Marilyn of Concordia, Mark Thoman and wife Christine of Derby, Jeff Thoman of Jamestown, Tom Thoman and wife Dawn of Jamestown; 15 Grandchildren, Melanie and Jared Pearce, Kate Revell, Doug and Holly Thoman, Julia and Jeff Cady, Brian and Casey Thoman, Zachary Thoman, Hilary and Jeremy Bledsoe, Aubrey Thoman, Jarod Thoman, Jacob Thoman, Derrick Revell, Bruce Thoman, Paige Thoman, Ashley Thoman, Britni Thoman; 5 Great Grandchildren, Zaide Thoman, Dylan Thoman, Jayce Cady, Morgan Thoman, Bentley Thoman; 4 brothers, Ted, Austin, Boyd, Larry; 1 sister, Shirley Davis; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Barry; daughter, Kelly; son-in-law, Dale Revell; and grandson-in-law, Jared Pearce.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, May 19, 2011 in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia with Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Jamestown. Visitation will be held from noon – 9 PM Wednesday, May 18, 2011 with family greeting friends from 6 – 7:30 PM at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials may be left to Bentley's Buddies for Down Syndrome Awareness with the funeral home in charge.
